Annual Art Show Benefits North Castle Library

ARMONK, N.Y. -- The Armonk Outdoor Art Show, presented by Friends of the North Castle Library, Inc., will be celebrating its 50th anniversary when it returns Sept. 25-26.

Artist registration co-chair Judy Moniz said she is excited to see what next month’s show has to offer in terms of fundraising for the library and she hopes that local people know the art show’s revenue goes a long way toward improving the library.

“The art show is the major fundraiser for the library and friends of the library run it and provides a lot of the extras for the library like furniture and renovations,” Moniz said.

The Sunday prior to the show, Friends of the North Castle Library will host a 5K race that will end outside the library.

“We’re particularly trying to make sure people realize that the money we raise at the art show is connected to the library,” Moniz said. “People don’t seem to have that connection so we’re trying to make that connection in people’s minds.”

Artists who display their work are chosen by a board of judges who evaluate their art in the months before the show. Last year’s prize winners are automatically qualified to return.

Moniz said she thinks the shows get better every year because of the amount of people that come to town to buy the art.

“Every year we get better and better artists because the way to attract artists to a show is if they sell so they can afford to come,” Moniz said. “It’s expensive to travel to a show from far away -- you’re giving up work time, you have travel expenses, gas, food, hotels, plus the booth fee, so they have to be able to sell well and the community here buys a lot of art.”

The show incorporates all types of art work including oils, acrylics, photography, water colors, wood, jewelry, pastels, and drawing.
