$4M Bond OK'd For N. White Plains Train Station Lot

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The North White Plains train station parking lot will undergo a major rehabilitation thanks to a $4 million bond act that was passed by the Westchester County Board of Legislators on Monday, April 7.

Westchester legislators approved a $4 million bond to renovate the parking lot at the North White Plains train station.

Westchester legislators approved a $4 million bond to renovate the parking lot at the North White Plains train station.

The footprint of the parking lot will not be expanded during the rehab, but in addition to resurfacing and realigning the lot, the spaces will be reconfigured. Current planning estimates suggest that up to 30 additional parking spots can be provided through the reconfiguration.

Current plans do not call for the lot to be closed during the renovation.

The project will also include replacing the existing ticket booth and adjusting the traffic flow to achieve a higher level of safety both for commuters and county employees working at the facility. New lighting will be installed throughout the lot. Special attention will also be paid to flood mitigation measures, particularly at the northern end of the site.

"This is a very important and very challenging project. Because the lot borders the Bronx River and is on a floodplain, there are few options available to us to manage the groundwater effectively," Legislator Sheila Marcotte, R-Eastchester, New Rochelle, Tuckahoe, said in a statement. "Our DPW and Parks Department are evaluating strategies to lessen some of the flooding problems that have plagued this lot, while considering the impact that rainwater runoff will have on the Bronx River."
