Stacy Ray was running her 11th marathon and ran as part of Fred's Team. Fred's Team is a Memorial Sloan Kettering athletic fundraising program designed to raise money to find a cure cancer.

"There is nothing like the New York City Marathon," Ray said. "What an amazing, inspiring day. The whole day is truly unbelievable from the thousands of volunteers, staff, NYPD and NYFD officers who make it a spectacular race. The support throughout the course was amazing. The energy from the spectators really gets you through the race. The music, cheering and signs really make you feel like a celebrity."

Ray said no matter how rough some of her miles were, it was nothing compared to the pain of battling cancer.

"I can't wait for my next race," Ray said.

Drew Swiss was running in his 30th marathon. Since 2007, he has been running for Team for Kids, an organization dedicated to preventing childhood obesity in underserved neighborhoods. Swiss has raised more than $515,000 for them.

"Although I was injured for the last three weeks, I was able to run and complete the marathon," Swiss said. "It was incredible crossing the finish line with the New York RoadRunners team there to greet me with a medal."
