SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Mark and Thomas Gibney have a devoted Lego center and museum in the living room of their Scarsdale home, which earned them a spot on the “Junior Construction Panel” for the new Legoland store opening in the Ridge Hill Mall March 27.
The Scarsdale twins submitted a video displaying their Lego creations to show why they should be chosen for the panel. They are two of 12 Lego enthusiasts, 2 six to 11, who were selected for the panel, which Legoland Discovery Center Westchester organized through its Facebook page . It received more than 120 video submissions in which kids displayed their love for Legos.
As members of the Junior Construction Panel, the brothers will work with a Lego master to provide input on what features could be added to the Discovery Center. It features more than three million Lego bricks, hands-on play areas, a four-dimensional cinema and Lego amusement rides.
The venue's signature feature, Miniland, re-creates Westchester and New York City landmarks using Lego bricks. The panel will preview the finished attraction March 21.
“We want to be on the community construction panel because I’m a good inventor so I’ll be a good helper,” Mark said in the video.
The brothers said in the video they have been to Legoland California, Legoland Water Park and even Legoland afterschool clubs and camps. They have used Legos to create an Olympic torch, a Native American Wigwam, and Mark even uses a Lego motor to shave. He has yet to start using after shave.
“We couldn’t be more excited about the group of bright and imaginative youngsters we have assembled for our Junior Construction Panel,” Chris Mines, general manager of Legoland Discovery Center Westchester, said in a statement. “Considering the level of enthusiasm each of the children displayed in their videos for all things Lego, we have no doubt that they will be able to provide great feedback in preparation for grand opening and serve as model representatives for us throughout the year.”
The other panel members include: Jack Pennachio of Eastchester; Adam Lupatkin of New Castle; Alex Louis of Tarrytown; Belladona Rodriguez of Beacon; Hunter Lapari of Clarkstown; Jacob Brown of Montrose; Maddie Miller of New City; Brian Kinaham of West Redding, Conn.; Samantha Murabito of Larchmont; and Jullian Sweeney of the Bronx.
Legoland Discovery Center Westchester will be in the Ridge Hill Mall in Yonkers.
