Anesthesiologists are not just treating patients in the operating room anymore, said Dr. David Miller of Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco. They are also working in the emergency room, the intensive care unit and the endoscopy and obstetrics departments.
“On any given day, we can be in as many as 18 to 20 different areas of the hospital,” said its Chief of Anesthesiology. “We’re much more mobile these days.”
As part of his job, Miller oversees a team of 17 board-certified physicians. He assigns each of them to the types of cases that require their particular area of expertise. Miller also treats patients directly.
He said his team’s “broad spectrum of talents” has contributed to the rising number of cases in the eight years he has worked at Northern Westchester Hospital.
“The number of our patients has grown significantly in the time I have been here,” said the Armonk resident. “For a community hospital, we really offer state-of-the-art services.”
Miller isn’t just talking about the work of his fellow anesthesiologists, though. He counts the high-quality, patient-centered care at Northern Westchester Hospital second to none among its competitors.
That said, Miller has made it his mission to help the hospital earn exposure and support from surrounding towns. He is currently helping gain sponsorships and attendees for the upcoming annual Northern Westchester Hospital Golf Classic at GlenArbor Golf Club in Bedford Hills.
Since Miller became chairperson of the event five years ago, he said the Golf Classic has raised an average of $150,000 for NWH each year. Those donations are especially important since Northern Westchester Hospital is a nonprofit institution, which relies on financial support from private donors to fund critical investments in new technology and modernized facilities.
“We’ve hoped to gain a little more notoriety each year,” he said. “Through the tournament, people can get a sense of what the hospital is really about and the services we offer.”
Northern Westchester Hospital Golf Classic at GlenArbor Golf Club will be held Tuesday, June 19. Click here for more details.
