“Legally Blonde is a true ensemble show. Every cast member plays multiple roles and is constantly on stage,” Random Farms Kids Theater director Alexis Grausz said. It will debut Saturday, Jan. 26, at 3 p.m. in the Tarrytown Music Hall and performances will continue this weekend and the first weekend of February.
The musical choice of “Legally Blonde” was well calculated, Grausz said.
“Because we have four casts to fill, it is important to us to choose musicals that appeal to a wide base of students,” she said. “With the movie with Reese Witherspoon, and the successful run of 'Legally Blonde, the Musical' on Broadway, I think our students have been extremely eager to do this show for a long time.”
You can include Cohen and Horowitz on that list. Cohen plays the role of “Child 2,” while Horowtiz plays “Margot,” the best friend of the lead, Elle.
“The show brings the movie to life, except even better,” said Horowitz, a 16-year-old junior at Byram Hills High School. “I cannot wait to perform my part. I’m so goofy and love to have a good time. I hope that energy is felt by the audience so they can have as much fun as I am.”
Cohen, who is only 11, is already a veteran. She has already taken part in more than 20 shows.
“I like the movie, and this is pretty much the same story,” she said. “But the fact that there’s music makes it different. Everyone plays their part differently. It’s going to be really good.”
The director holds both Armonk performers in high regard.
“I have worked with Charlie for three or four years now, and she is one of the hardest working kids he have at Random Farms,” said Grausz.
Her praise for Horowitz was equally impressive.
“Alison brings such a goofy, wonderful energy to the show,” she said. “She is never afraid to take big risks on stage and stretch the bounds of her character.”
Cohen and Horowitz are joined by 130 peers with similar talent and energy, and Grausz can’t wait for opening night.
“I am so proud of how hard all of our students have been working on this show,” she said. “I think I am most excited for them to get out there in front of an audience and share all of this with their friends and families.”
