Armonk Teen Urges Congress To Fight Against Cystic Fibrosis

ARMONK, N.Y. -- Armonk teen Matt Grotta traveled with more than 75 teens from across the country to Washington, D.C. to advocate for cystic fibrosis on the eighth annual Teen Advocacy Day.

"I am excited to advocate on behalf of my father, Tom," said Grotta. "This is a chance for me to help join the fight against CF."

Grotta, 17, traveled to Washington D.C. to meet with elected officials and advocate for more funding for the National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration and to consider joining the cystic fibrosis caucuses in the House of Representatives and Senate.

Participating teens share their personal experiences of how the disease has impacted their families annually for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Teen Advocacy Day. This year's edition took place June 22 and 23.

Cystic fibrosis causes progressive lung damage and difficulty with breathing. Approximately 30,000 people in the United States have the life-threatening genetic disease.
