Armonk Realtor, George Groves Dies at 73

ARMONK, N.Y. - George "G.G." Groves, of Armonk, died with his family at his bedside on Nov. 15. He was 73.

A real estate agent in Westchester for over 45 years, Groves owned Re/Max Prime Properties in Scarsdale for the last 21 years.

Groves was born May 25, 1938 in New York City and was raised in Armonk.  He met his wife Sandra in Philadelphia over 48 years ago and moved back to Armonk 16 years later to raise their three daughters.

He served as former president of the Westchester County Board of Realtors, Westchester County tax commissioner and Re/Max Realtor of the Year, as well as a board member of the New York State Association of Realtors and National Association of Realtors. His specialty was bank-owned and distressed properties.

Said to always have a good story about a recent listing, he enjoyed the process of buying and selling real estate. Groves was also passionate about children's charities, devoting many Christmas holidays to raising money for the Children's Miracle Network.

An accomplished Bridge Life Master, he competed in many tournaments and loved playing at Bridge Deck in Hartsdale. He also enjoyed playing golf and traveling, having spent summers at Wolf Lake in the Adirondacks and time sailing in the Caribbean.

Groves is survived by his wife Sandra, his daughters Christine (Sal) Arnold of Brewster, N.Y., Elizabeth (Samuel) Moreland of Tuscon, Ariz. and Wendy (Dave) Stegman of San Diego, Calif., his sisters Maryanna Carley of Sharon, Conn. and Mable Southam of Miami, Fla. and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Westchester Funeral Home in Eastchester. A funeral service will immediately follow at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
