Armonk Man Produces New Janis Joplin Musical On Broadway

ARMONK, N.Y. -- Daniel Chilewich, an Armonk resident, is co-producing one of the newest additions to Broadway, "A Night With Janis Joplin," which opens in previews at the Lyceum Theatre on Sept. 20.

"A Night With Janis Joplin" is a musical journey celebrating Joplin and her biggest musical influences – trailblazers like Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone and Bessie Smith. The show has been on a national tour since 2011.

Chilewich's producing credits include "Here to Stay," the national tour of Tony Award-winning show "Blast," "‘S Wonderful" and "Over the Rainbow – The Music of Harold Arlen.

He is also producing a new musical with multi-Grammy Award-winning recording artist BeBe Winans. In addition, he is an attorney with offices in New York and New Jersey

Chilewich lives in Armonk with his wife, Karen, and three daughters.

In addition to previously announced Mary Bridget Davies, who will be reprising her acclaimed performance as Joplin, other members of the cast are are Taprena Michelle Augustine ("The Book of Mormon"), Tony Award nominee De’Adre Aziza ("Passing Strange"), Nikki Kimbrough ("Dreamgirls") and NaTasha Yvette Williams ("The Color Purple") who will be playing Joplin’s backup singers, “The Joplinaires,” and featured as some of the iconic female singers who influenced Joplin’s music. They will be joined by Kacee Clanton ("A Night with Janis Joplin," regionally) as Janis Joplin alternate, Allison Blackwell (The Gershwin’s "Porgy and Bess") as Joplinaire swing and Alison Cusano ("A Night with Janis Joplin," regionally) as Joplinaire swing and Janis Joplin understudy.

The official opening night of "A Night With Janis Joplin" is scheduled for Oct. 10.
