At the Congregation B'Nai Yisrael in Armonk, members not only are celebrating the holiday but also giving back to those in need. On Sunday, the synagogue will have a Hanukkah gift wrapping party for children in need at the Pleasantville Cottage School.

Joanna Nevins, a spokesperson for the synagogue, said giving to those in need, regardless of the holiday season, is just part of the philosophy at the synagogue.

"We try to do it year round, not just around the holidays," Nevins said. "We're a very giving community so we just make it a part of our daily lives."

Nevins said toys have been collected and donated for the past two weeks. Members of the synagogue and their children will have the wrapping party Sunday followed by a lunch before the toys are delivered to the children at the Pleasantville Cottage School, which is a part of the Jewish College Care Association and houses 118 troubled youths between ages 7-15.

On Monday, the Chabbad of Armonk, Chappaqua and Pleasantville will have a Hanukkah story day for children at the North Castle Public Library. The event, beginning at 11 a.m., also will include arts and crafts, sing-alongs and snacks.

The Chabbad will then host a special giant menorah lighting ceremony Tuesday on Business Park Drive in Armonk. The event will include crafts, sing-alongs and snacks and will begin at 5 p.m. just outside of The GYM at 99 Business Park Drive.
