White Plains Hospital Wants You To Get Up And Start Walking

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Joined by White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach and 17 community partners, White Plains Hospital announced a new walking competition this week. Named 'ExSTEP-tional,' the program aims to encourage employees and workplaces to increase their physical activity.

The announcement took place September 9 at White Plains City Hall, with the hospital distributing pedometers to all in attendance. Mayor Roach continued by challenging area employers to participate in the initiative.

The free challenge- which will be held from Oct. 5 to 30 – asks companies and organizations to form five-member teams to compete. The Hospital will hold an awards luncheon on Nov. 5 to recognize teams and individuals who walk the most steps.

Coincidentally on the same day, the U.S. Surgeon General issued an appeal prompting individuals to walk more, citing it as an effective tool against diabetes and heart disease. The Surgeon General also released a Pandora playlist full of song to help get people walking and hearts pumping.

Teams can sign up for ExSTEP-tional on the Hospital’s website starting September 17.
