ARMONK, N.Y. -- Restaurateur Mark Mazzotta is hoping that his new move in Armonk is amore (Italian for "love").

Mazzotta, a Katonah resident, is moving his Italian restaurant Amore from 575 Main St. in the hamlet to 1 Kent St. Amore has been an Armonk institution since it opened in 1997. Mazzotta has previously run restaurants in Thornwood, White Plains, Scarsdale and now runs Pomodoro Trattoria in Riverside, Conn.

"We are moving into the heart of downtown into the building that we own," Mazzotta said. "We are very excited about this project.

Mazzotta said he expects to be open in December. The restaurant on Main Street will close when the other restaurant opens.

"We have over an acre of property and will maximize our potential," Mazzotta said. "We are working diligently everyday."

Some of the initiatives include planting a garden that they will draw vegetables from and Mazzotta hopes chefs from other restaurants will participate. Amore also plans on implementing a sustainable compost system that will utilize the organic waste from the restaurant and fold into the herb and vegetable garden.

Mazzotta is moving into a location that has seen many restaurants come and go over the years, so he is hoping his new location will be a mainstay. Mazzotta decided to make the new location like a Tuscan farmhouse.

"We thought we would complement downtown Armonk," Mazzotta said.

Mazzotta and his family are building the restaurant themselves. He said he is not worried the move will have an adverse effect on business.

"We are very confident," Mazzotta said. "We are so well rooted in the community and the town. We are not doing this for the money. We are passionate about what we do. Good things happen when you are passionate what you do."

The current restaurant features a traditional regional Italian menu with the usual assortment of pizza, pasta and paninis. At the new restaurant, Mazzotta said he plans to reduce the menu while also offering blackboard specials and craft beer.

"I am looking forward to reconnecting with our loyal customers and showing we can do more than just pizza," Mazzotta said.
