Inspired by the Victorian era staples of lace, velvet and sequins, Preen is the brainchild of designers Justin Thorton and Thea Bregazzi. This year marks the line's 20th anniversary. Originally started in a small store on Portobello St. in London, since their arrival in New York in 2008, Preen has built its reputation on one thing: the dress.

"Preen's signature style is very strong, and has been very Victorian since the beginning," said Anastasia Cucinella, general manager of luxury boutique Mary Jane Denzer in White Plains. "Their signature look harkens back to an era of demure feminity with graceful, high lace necklines, long or ¾ length poof sleeves and a gentle definition of the figure."

While Preen's romantic look draws its inspiration from another era, its designers truly understand today's lifestyle. "One dress can take your from morning to the evening," said Cucinella. "It’s something you can wear during the day and to a country club or cocktail party later in the evening. You can dress it down for day and dress it up at night. It’s very versatile" While Cucinella's discerning eye seeks out only the most couture workmanship for the store, she notes that these dresses are surprisingly well-priced.

Although it's been in existence for eight years, this is the first year Westchester shoppers have been able to browse the collection at Mary Jane Denzer in White Plains. "This is the first season we've carried Preen, and we’ve sold 80% of our inventory," said Cucinella. "Because it's so eye-catching, it's been very well received. The average customer wants to be current and fashionable and loves the concept of print and lace." However, the style isn't for everyone, she notes. "Preen isn't designed for the timid; it's aimed at a more fashion forward person."

Like any dress, Cucinella stresses the importance of finding the right Preen dress for you. "The collection is designed to flatter a range of figures," she explains, ensuring Preen has something to offer every woman.
