MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Earlier this month, Northern Westchester Hospital unveiled Phase I of its surgical services modernization project, showcasing six new, state-of-the art operating rooms, a 14-bay Pre- and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and a modernized Central Sterile Processing and Supply Facility. The partnership between surgeons such as Dr. Marshal Peris and NWH allow for the highest level of surgical sophistication to develop here at the hospital.

Dr. Peris is the Co-Chief of Spine Surgery and Medical Staff President at Northern Westchester Hospital, Director of Spine Surgery, Mount Sinai, Mount Kisco Division and a Clinical Assistant Professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Department of Orthopedics. Dr. Peris served as a co-chair for the Capital Campaign alongside Dr. Anita Grover and Hatsy Vallar, NWH Foundation Board member, and worked tirelessly to raise funds to support the modernization project.

"This project is important to me because the new surgical suite at Northern Westchester Hospital takes already great care to an exciting new level of sophistication for operating rooms and patient safety," said Dr. Peris. "The creation of these new OR’s, allows us to continue to increase our use of new technologies and treat our patients in the most surgically advanced setting possibly in the entire country."

The six new operating rooms, which opened on April 4, are an average of 655 square feet and accommodate the equipment and staff required for today’s high-tech, minimally-invasive surgery. Each new operating room accommodates state-of-the-art medical technology and allows for ease of maneuverability of staff and equipment so that patients will receive the highest quality and safest care possible. The new operating rooms were designed to accommodate leading-edge medical technology and attract and retain highly-skilled surgeons, nurses and support staff so that patients will continue receiving the highest quality and safest care possible. Each room is approximately 655 square feet and includes advanced features and the latest in infection, sound and temperature control.

"We do more spine surgery at NWH than any other community hospital in Westchester County. NWH is always looking to advance the types of surgery we do and is willing to invest in the technologies that allow us to be cutting edge," said Dr. Peris.

The new surgical services suite incorporates the hospital’s Plantree philosophy of patient-centered care into its design, including soothing colors and natural light. In addition, pre- and post-anesthesia care unit now consists of single-patient rooms, which provide more space and greater privacy for patients and family members are spacious and allow for more privacy. As NWH celebrates its Centennial year, it is these dramatic changes – over 100 years - in advanced technology, clinical capabilities and improved facilities that impact the lives of those in our community.

"As a spine surgeon, I choose to operate at NWH for the excellent clinical team, terrific support staff and most importantly because I know that my patients will receive the highest level of patient-centered care," said Dr. Peris.
