ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY -- The Bard SummerScape festival is currently presenting the world premiere -- almost a full century after its creation -- of Demolishing Everything with Amazing Speed, a futurist puppet play by Fortunato Depero.

Originally written in 1917 by Depero, one leading Italian Futurists, the puppet play has been translated, designed and directed by Hudson Valley-based puppet artist Dan Hurlin.

Based on four plays written at the height of World War I, the performance is hallucinogenic, fast-paced, and shot through with dark humor. The play celebrates the energy and possibility of technology, while revealing the chilling parallels between the early 20th century and today.

Hurlin, who lives and works in the Hudson Valley, discovered Depero’s scenarios during his Rome Prize Fellowship in Italy. They had never before been translated into English, published, or performed. Hurlin brings Depero’s images and visions—sometimes whimsical, sometimes disturbing and violent—to life on stage for the first time. With a live score by Dan Moses Schreier and combining the latest technology, from 3D printing to sound sampling, with centuries-old bunraku style puppetry, Demolishing Everything with Amazing Speed promises to be a wild ride.

Performances will be held at the Fisher Center's LUMA Theater on Wednesday July 13 at 2 p.m., Thursday July 14 at 7:30 p.m., Friday July 15 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday July 16 at 2 p.m and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday July 17 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $25 to $60 and the performance is suitable for ages 12 and up.
