ARMONK, N.Y. -- Lyssa Weiss, an Armonk resident, knows how to get you back into your skinny jeans.

Weiss is the author of "The Skinny Jeans Diet: Change Your Thinking, Change Your Eating and Finally Fit Into Your Pants," which was published last month.

It is the first book for Weiss, who works as a nutritionist in Armonk.

"I want to help women end the cycle of yo-yo dieting," Weiss said. "The key to doing this is that you have to change your thinking to change your eating. What you put in your mouth is secondary to what you put in your head."

Weiss said her diet can work with any diet plan and she practices what she preaches, having lost 50 lbs 20 years ago.

"This was from healthy eating, eating real food from real supermarkets," Weiss said. "There were no specialty shakes or stores."

Before she discovered her plan, Weiss was a serial dieter like many people who attempt to lose weight.

"What you think is really more important than what you eat," Weiss said. "Ninety-seven percent of women who are on a diet are going to fail. It's not food based it's thought based. Anyone can lose weight."

Weiss said dieters need to think of food that causes that them to eat to excess like bad boyfriends.

"You get elbow deep and it adds calories," Weiss said. "It's like a guy you think you're just going to go out on a date with and not end up back in his apartment but at the end of the night, you're back in his bed."

Women need to keep their kitchen clean and not have those bad boyfriends around.

"It starts in the cart," Weiss said. "People kid themselves at the supermarket and say they are buying this for their kids or book club. You have to get real."

Weiss said her "bad boyfriend" is chocolate chip cookies. But since she hates cheesecake, when she has to make something for company, she makes that, knowing it won't tempt her. Calorie counting is also important.

"You have to track your food," Weiss said. "If you eat too many calories, you're not going to lose weight. If you bite it, you write it."
