Inside the restaurants of downtown Armonk, however, patrons have several options for warming up, with soup taking front and center. Here's a sampling of where to go.

La Mer Seafood Co.: Owner Edward Weschler notes that his place has at least five soups a day, many of which fall in the seafood and vegetable categories. The former include lobster bisque, New England Clam Chowder and Manhattan Clam Chowder, while the latter include butternut squash, lentil and split pea. The vegetarian soups are vegan, gluten free and dairy free. Grab a Spoon: 407 Main Street, (914) 219-5532,  www.lamerseafood.net/.

Bowls Hand Crafted Salads & Soups has approximately 35 to 40 soups in rotation according to owner Neil Lesher. Among them: Mulligatawny, split pea, mushroom barley, chicken noodle, vegetarian chili and turkey chili. Grab a Spoon: 402 Main St., Suite #5, (914) 730-1020, www.bowlssalad.com/.

Zanni Restaurant, a newcomer to downtown, is located at Mariani Gardens where Chef Jorge Madrid said soups include a gluten-free butternut squash soup. Also popular in winter: Gnocchi with sheep's milk-based ricotta cheese and monkfish stuffed with lobster. Grab a Spoon: 45 Bedford Rd., (914) 273-6700, www.zannirestaurant.com/.
