Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer: The Musical” brings to life the famous television musical on Saturday, Nov. 28, with shows at 3 and 7 p.m., perfect timing for families who are looking for some post-Thanksgiving fun! On Thursday, Dec. 10, the holiday favorite “A Christmas Carol” will be performed by the Nebraska Theatre Caravan starting at 7 p.m.

“Rudolph,” which first aired on television in 1964, has been a longtime television favorite. The stage version is extraordinarily compelling, bringing characters to life. Characters such as Santa and Mrs. Claus, Hermey the Elf, Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster, Clarice, Yukon Cornelius, the Misfit Toys and even Rudolph spark the imagination of theater goers of all ages.

The stage production is directed and conceived by Jeff Frank and First Stage. “We’ve created something that feels like the handcrafted, homespun nature of the original TV special,” Frank said in an interview. “The songs are great,’’ he added. “People forget that ‘Holly Jolly Christmas’ and ‘The Most Wonderful Day of the Year’ came from the original TV special. We’re just having a lot of fun bringing that to life in a new form. The way that the story comes alive is really going to be pretty incredible.”

It’s an adventure that teaches us that what makes you different can be what makes you special. Don’t miss this great family show that speaks to the misfit in all of us.

In “A Christmas Carol,” the Nebraska Theatre Caravan is the professional touring wing of the Omaha Community Playhouse. The music version brings Charles Dickens’ classic Yuletide tale before your eyes with an organization that has been touring with an adaptation of the tale since 1979. It is one of the most widely viewed productions of the Dickens tale in the nation, annually performing for over 100,000 over 60 cities across the nation.

While many people have seen the movie screen adaptation of A Christmas Carol, the stage version delivers the compelling story line with a musical score that must be appreciated in person. With rich scenes, sets and costumes, a nationally-recognized cast delivers a Broadway experience close to home. The show helps spread the spirit of the season at precisely the right moment.

The cast features 23 spirited performers who sing timeless carols such as “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Away In a Manager” and “Here We Come A-Wassailing” . The story was adapted for stage by Charles Jones, and James Othuse designed the set.

“This Caravan production has been complimented repeatedly by those saying that the show looks ‘like Christmas cards,’ ‘like Christmas should be,’ ‘like Christmas in your mind when you were a child’ Jones said on the Nebraska Theatre Caravan website. “The credit for this wizardry must go to my colleagues, James Othuse, whose talent as a designer can frequently make dreams come true.”
