The Archduke Trio, dedicated to Archduke Rudolph of Austria, is a lively and tuneful chamber music work written toward the end of the composer’s middle period.

“It’s the greatest piano trio ever written, and the last piece Beethoven played in public,” said Anthony Newman, St. Matthew's Church music director.

This concert also includes a performance of Beethoven’s grand 7th Symphony, arranged for chamber ensemble by Newman. The piece has been described as “the apotheosis of the dance” by Wagner, and is characterized by a propulsive rhythmic drive throughout all four movements.

In addition, Newman will be joined by flutist Mimi Stillman for a performance of the early Serenade for flute and piano, a charming piece that shows Beethoven in a far lighter mood.

The 2015-16 Bedford Chamber Concert Series' finale will be held on Wednesday, May 11, featuring an all-Antonio Vivaldi program, including the Four Seasons. The program also includes concerti for multiple violins and a flute concerto.

The concerts begin at 8 p.m. in Fellowship Hall at St. Matthew’s Church, 382 Cantitoe St., Bedford. Tickets for the April 20 concert are $35 per person and $40 for the season finale on May 11.

Refreshments are served during the intermission. For more information or to order tickets, visit www.bedfordchamberconcerts.org, or call 914-522-5150.
