Man Reverses On Fairfield Road, Faces DUI Charge

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Bridgeport man was charged with driving under the influence after a witness saw him driving backwards down a Fairfield road Tuesday night, according to police reports.

The report came from another driver who spotted the man on Easton Turnpike just before 10 p.m. Tuesday night. The suspect reportedly stopped perpendicular to traffic on the street, blocking both lanes, according to police reports. He then started driving in reverse until he reached the gas station at the intersection of Stratfield Road and Tunxis Hill Road, police said.

Police caught up with the man at the gas station. There he failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody, according to the police report. At Fairfield police headquarters, he was given a breath test that showed his blood alcohol content as 0.3544, more than four times the legal limit, police said.

Robert Pastore, 42, of Bridgeport was charged with driving under the influence. He was released after posting a $100 bond, and is due in court Oct. 1.
