Reiser is performing at the Paramount Hudson Valley in Peekskill on June 10, bringing with him his unique observations on marriage, parenthood and now growing older.
"I really started from scratch," Reiser said about crafting his act. "I never wanted to dust off my old material. I started the way I did when I was 18 and just sat down and started writing things down with a pencil."
The comedian, who also starred on "My Two Dads" and in films like "Beverly Hills Cop," "Diner" and "Aliens," said his audience has grown up with him.
"Now we're seeing things from a different point of view, from a different place of life," Reiser said. "It feels like we've gone through life together, it's a very warm kind of experience. I always intended to go back to the stage, I was always a comic. I got distracted by acting."
Reiser said he got busy doing "Mad About You" and wasn't able to focus on doing comedy. Instead he waited for the right moment and it eventually found him.
"I was the emcee at the charity event," Reiser said. "It was a great audience, we had a great time and when I got off stage, I realized how much I missed it."
The New York City native said he is excited to be performing close to home. He previously screened "The Things About My Folks" at the Paramount. Reiser wrote and starred in the film, which co-starred Ossining native Peter Falk.
Reiser said he also gets fans who only know him from his recent work like the TV shows "Married," and "Red Oaks," or the movie "Whiplash."
"People come up to me and say I never knew you did standup," Reiser said. "It's a perfectly reasonable assumption. I'm always and tickled by what people respond to. It's like getting together with old friends. There's a nice warmth to it."
