Pace Symposium Tackles Pocantico Watershed Question

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Pace University's Dyson Institute for Sustainability and Environment is hosting a symposium called "Environmental Research in the Pocantico Watershed: Past and Future" and invites the public to be part of the discussion between academics, citizen groups and policymakers on future research needs.

The day will examine the fragile relationship between the Pocantico Watershed -- which flows into the Hudson River -- and surrounding Westchester communities.

A panel on the current state of the watershed will be attended by the following experts:

  • Nicholas A. Robinson, Pace University Professor for the Environment, Pace Law will examine the natural and cultural history of the Pocantico.
  • M.M. Minnis, a professor of Chemistry & Physical Sciences at Pace will see what we can learn by mapping the Pocantico.
  • Dwane Binns, MSES, Environmental Studies and Science at Pace discusses the carnivores found today in the Pocantico Watershed.

Paul Gallay, President of Hudson Riverkeeper , is the event's keynote speaker and will discuss the next steps needed in the protecton of the Pocantico

The symposium will be held on Friday, March 11 in Pleasantville from 9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m at Pace University's Kessel Student Center in Gottesman Room
