His creations, which have been featured on CNN, MSNBC and the United Church of Christ’s Sunday Bulletin Service, have included the following thoughtful and humorous phrases:

  • “God prefers kind atheists over hateful Christians.”
  • “A gay Christian is not an oxymoron; a hateful Christian most certainly is.”
  • “How do we worship a homeless man on Sunday and ignore one on Monday?”
  • “Jesus had two dads, and he turned out just fine.”
  • “Live so fully that Westboro Baptist Church will picket your funeral.”
  • “Bigotry wrapped in prayer is still bigotry.”
  • “The holy family were refugees (Matthew 2:13-15)”
  • “War is costly. Peace is priceless.”
  • “May all your troubles last as long as your new year’s resolutions.”
  • “Tweet unto others as you want others to tweet you.”
  • “Jesus practiced universal healthcare (Matthew 4:23-25)
  • “So getting up Sunday morning is hard? Try rising from the dead.”
  • “A long time ago in a Galilee far, far away…”
  • “Thanks, Judge Walker, marriage equality is a civil right.”
  • “Poverty is a sin. Being poor isn’t.”
  • “Love your neighbor. Protect Medicaid.”
  • “Brand new sign, same old message. God loves you.”
  • “It’s OK to be Takei!”
  • “Jesus was a low-wage worker.”

When asked about the signage, Pastor Ron shared his doubts about the role of religion in today’s society:

“I often wonder if religion does have a place in modern society,” he said. “I certainly believe that the church of our era has become irrelevant to many. I believe that the church has quit challenging people to live full lives and has become more interested in butts in pews.”

“Jesus was a radical Jewish rabbi who challenged followers to live in radically different ways,” Pastor Ron continued. “Although it may not increase Sunday morning attendance, as a Pastor, I feel compelled to offer my congregation the challenge of radical discipleship. This requires a focus on issues of social justice that are often absent from the worship or mission of the church.”
