ARMONK, N.Y. -- Cantor and holocaust survivor David Wisnia and his grandson Avi Wisnia will commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day with story and song at Congregation B'nai Yisrael on Thursday, May 5.
Seventy years after the liberation in 1945, David Wisnia embarked on a journey with Avi to reconnect with his roots and bring his story to a new generation.
Wisnia survived Auschwitz by singing to entertain the SS and cell block leaders. He composed a song in Polish and one in Yiddish that were popular with the inmates. Both are on display at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C.
Avi Wisnia is an award-winning composer, singer, performer and educator influenced by Brazilian bossa nova, acoustic American folk, 1950s West Coast jazz and contemporary pop.
The free event begins at 7 p.m.
