Berkeley College President Will Talk At Business Council Speaker Series

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Berkeley College President Michael Smith will be among the speakers at the KeyBank Speaker Series featuring Leaders in Higher Education.

The speakers will deliver their talk at the event on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 8 a.m. It will be held at Abigail Kirsch at Tappan Hill Mansion, 81 Highland Ave., Tarrytown and is hosted by The Business Council of Westchester.

Joining Smith will be Stephen J. Friedman, President of Pace University; Belinda Miles, PhD., President of Westchester Community College ; and Jon Strauss, PhD., President of Manhattanville College.

Smith was named President in January 2015. Prior to becoming President, he served in key leadership positions at Berkeley for 19 years, including Senior Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer of BES Inc., the corporate office of Berkeley College.

He also served as Treasurer for the Berkeley College Board of Trustees and Campus Operating Officer of the Berkeley College, White Plains, NY location. In addition, he has served as an evaluation team member for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, a regional accrediting organization covering the mid-Atlantic region in the United States.

Prior to joining Berkeley College, Smith was Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of MetLife Realty Group, a company of which he was a founder. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst.

As part of the event, Smith and the other school leaders will discuss the challenges and opportunities facing institutions of higher learning including creating curriculums to properly train the workforce of the future. The discussion will be moderated by Geoff Thompson, managing partner of Thompson & Bender.
