WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Electronics retailer Radio Shack filed for bankruptcy on Thursday and could sell up to 2,400 stores nationwide in restructuring, according to Forbes.
The Texas-based electronics store held on longer than most of its peers by being the place where one could find wired accessories in the now-wireless world, Forbes reported.
The company, which began as a leather shoe parts and repair store 94 years ago, filed in Delaware, claiming $1.2 billion in assets and $1.38 billion in liabilities, Forbes said.
Radio Shack currently has 16 stores in Westchester County: Bedford Hills, Briarcliff Manor, Hartsdale, Somers, Mamaroneck, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Peekskill, Port Chester, Thornwood, two locations in White Plains, two locations in Yonkers and two in Yorktown Heights.
