WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- McDonald's announced it will close up to 700 stores world-wide due to slumping sales, according to CBS Boston.

The fast food giant said sales dropped 2.3 percent during the first quarter of the year while other fast food chains like Chipotle and Yum Brands saw more than modest gains, CBS Boston reported. 

McDonald's executives plan to roll out a new business plan to spark revenue gains on May 4, CBS Boston said.
