ARMONK, N.Y. – With Christmas and New Year’s approaching at rapid pace, Armonk alcohol shops are ready for last minute customers.

At Armonk Wines & Spirits, located at 383 Main Street, owner Christophe Drumoulin is thinking outside of the box—or rather, bottle.

“Instead of blast sales or special offers, I usually bring in select items I would never ordinarily carry,” he said. “Not necessarily extremely expensive brands, but more along the lines of high quality products at reasonable prices, that will appeal to most costumers.”

Drumoulin pointed out Comb Blossom, an aged brandy from Port Chester priced at $30, Crémant De Bourgogne, a French sparkling wine priced at $15, and a dry, unfortified port wine at $15 as special holiday items that have been selling well.

“We do free gift wrapping and free delivery to help everyone get what they need, when they need it,” he said.

Another Armonk retailer who emphasizes gift packaging and local deliveries is Wine Geeks, located at 559 Main St. While they only specialize in wine at the moment, the owners anticipate their liquor license to be approved in early 2013.

“Our gift buckets make an awesome present,” said co-owner Carol Todd, who has operated the store with her husband Derek for three-and-a-half years. “We put an assortment of wines in a galvanized ice bucket, along with a corkscrew bottle opener.”

Todd said that while the gift buckets begin at $50, customers can customize the assortment of selected wines for their own liking, with the price varying accordingly. She added that accessories like aerators, rabbit wine opener kits and decorative bottle stoppers make great stocking stuffers.

“This is our busiest time of the year,” she said. “So we make sure we have any kind of gift a wine drinker would want.”
